why we need
thermal design

What is Thermal Design?

Thermal design engineers conduct thermal analysis and simulation on products or systems, ascertain it's internal heat distribution and transfer path, and then they improve its thermal performance by optimizing the design.

Necessity of performing the thermal design and simulation during the initial design phase

If thermal design is not carefully carried out during the design phase, and take appropriate measures to address thermal issues. Problems caused by heat may be discovered during the product trial production stage or even during mass production. Although the problems are not limited to heat, the closer we approach the mass production stage,  it takes more time to make countermeasures, arises higher the cost, causes the greater the risk of product delivery delays, leading to missed business opportunities.

In addition, the demand for faster product iteration results in shorter design cycles for engineers, therefore, more and more enterprises are adopting thermal simulation to reduce costs, accelerate research and development, improve the thermal performance reliability of power devices, and thus efficiently drive thermal design.

Characteristics of thermal design work

Thermal design is a closed loop, from structural design in the early stage of the project, hardware layout, software control, material selection to temperature rise testing in the later stage, all should involve the participation of thermal design engineers.

With the development of electronic devices and devices towards miniaturization, power consumption continues to rise, and the demand for high heat flux density heat dissipation is becoming increasingly urgent, making thermal design increasingly important.

How thermal
design engineers work

Our thermal design engineers will use Ansys Icepak software to design liquid cold plate solutions for customers, to realize the initial theoretical feasibility, and then move to the actual sample production, which will save the cost and development cycle for customers.

Usually, the difference between simulated data and actual test data is around 2-3 degrees.

It can be seen that the local and overall temperature distribution.

It takes 2-3 days to complete the thermal design for a liquid cold plate.

It can display the flow resistance data value of the coolant and the flow rate of coolant
